Elgar
Sir Edward William Elgar, 1st Baronet, OM, GCVO (1857-1934) was an English composer. He is known for orchestral works including the Enigma Variations, the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, concertos for violin and cello, and two symphonies. He was appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1924. Elgar is probably best known for the first of the five Pomp and Circumstance Marches, composed between 1901 and 1930 It is familiar to millions of television viewers all over the world every year who watch the Last Night of the Proms, where it is traditionally performed. The theme of the slower middle section (technically called the "trio") of the first march is used in the United States for high school and university graduations, and is known as "The Graduation Song" or "The Graduation March".
